The Optical Joystick | LightStick® is a game changing technology, it’s what’s called a paradigm shift or a leap forward in the evolution of man-machine interface control. Why? Well, first you need to understand that today’s electronic joystick technologies such as resistive, potentiometer, hall-effect, and inductive all have “flaws” or disadvantages in the application and usage. Most of these electronic joystick technologies have a work-around to the disadvantages but will add additional time and material costs to its application. The Optical Joystick technology offers two key advantages over all other technologies. First, the Optical Joystick has virtually zero susceptibility to Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) signals. Secondly, the Optical Joystick has no susceptibility to high vibration motion or movement in general.
So what does these two key advantages of the Optical Joystick | LightStick® offer to the intended application? Well, typical Military applications require protective shielding to electronic sub-systems from EMI/RFI interference (MIL-STD-461F), so as to allow error free operation. This is extremely important because the Optical Joystick is immune to most levels of high interference signals (200 V/m) and can electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Other non-military applications such as handheld wireless or wired pendants, where precise movement of objects is critical to the safety of personnel in the area, can also take advantage of the optical joystick technology to increase reliability of control and eliminate costly liability issues. Basically any critical application, say medical devices and instrumentation, where disruption to the control of system cannot be tolerated is where the Optical Joystick must be used. Also, the fact that the Optical Joystick is immune to vibration is advantageous to usage in mobile applications, whether on-road or off-road, such as aviation, marine vessels, automotive and transport vehicles, heavy equipment, wheelchairs, recreational vehicles, etc.
